Friends of The Battleship NORTH CAROLINA is a non-profit organization whose role is to support the Museum Department and promote preservation of the Battleship. Although the Battleship North Carolina is the State's memorial to the veterans of World War II and a State museum under the Department of Cultural Resources, the Battleship receives no funding from any federal, state, or local government body for its operations. The Ship is maintained through revenue generated from admissions, museum store sales, rentals, and donations. The most decorated United States battleship of World War II and a National Historical Landmark, this grand lady, known as The Showboat, deserves our best efforts. Friends of the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA form a special circle of caring people who join forces to enhance this unique opportunity to reach out and touch World War II, a significant part of national and world history. Friends fund exhibits, interpretation, educational programs, and an annual summer intern. In return for their support, the friends receive free admission to the ship for a year, a quarterly newsletter keeping them informed of happenings at the Battleship, a 10% discount in the Museum Store, invitations to exhibit openings, and discounts to events. We invite you to enlist in the Friends of the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA.
